Classic psychology experiments are historically important, but they should not automatically be treated as unquestionable facts. Some famous studies have been criticized for small or unrepresentative samples, methodological problems, replication issues, demand characteristics, cultural limitations or ethical concerns.

Psychology has developed substantially since many of these studies were conducted. Modern research generally places much greater emphasis on informed consent, participant protection, preregistration, statistical rigour, replication and transparent reporting.
